Erasmus Experience in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Cristina
Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?
The reason I chose here was because there weren't many places to choose from, and the majority of them required a higher level of French or German from me, so I didn't have many options. But I didn't regret my decision.
How long did the scholarship last? How much money did you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was 5 months long and I received €250 per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?
It's basically a student city, because the Slovenian students have to come to Ljubljana or Maribor to study, so that means there is a great student atmosphere.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?
Yes, definitely.
What is the food like there?
They don't have a lot of traditional food, but being a student you have menus from 80 cent to €3, and the food is good. So eating isn't a problem.
Was is difficult to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?
No, but it's better to look once you arrive.
How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?
It costs a lot to rent a flat or house, and for food. When it comes to food shopping at the supermarket and the rest of the things like that, it costs more or less the same as Spain, maybe even a little bit cheaper.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The university offered me a three week course, but I learnt the majority of things I know on my own. You can manage perfectly with English here, but the people are very appreciative when you try and learn their language.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?
By plane from Venice, and after that Go Opti airport transfers.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?
There are a variety of different places, depending on the taste of each person. But in my opinion, Metelkova.
Is it good to eat out in Ljubljana? Can you recommend some good restaurants?
I tend to go to Index which is the cheapest place and the food is nice. But for me, the best is the Cantina Mexicana.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The castle and different museums there are.
