Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

Because it's great located to travel around Europe.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I received around 700€ before the semester start and I think I will get a bit more after this semester.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

Great! The city centre is very nice for having a beer near the river, or watch a football game during the night, or just walk around and chill under the sun during the day. For students, Ljubljana is great because it's a cheap city so we can do many things, travel around Slovenia and Europe.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

Yes, very much!

What is the food like?

In Slovenia, I don't feel like food is very different from France (industrial products), even if I miss some French traditional products.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

I didn't have any accommodation when I came, I stayed in an Airbnb for 5 days, and yes it was very stressful for me. I got lucky because I met a French girl who was living in a 7 bedroom house, where there were one room free. But if I had not met her, I think it would have taken me much longer to find something I liked.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

I would say:

  • 280€ for the room,
  • 150€ for the food,
  • 20€ for the bus,
  • 50€ for extras,
  • 10€ for the phone.

So minimum 650 per month + the trips during the WE (150€ per trip).

There are also the city bikes for 3€ a year.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

No, the language is not easy at all. Yes, courses are available.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

I leave in Grenoble, in France, and the easiest way is by plane. The flight last only 1h15 and there are cheap flights.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

I only did Erasmus partying and I think it's not the best party. I want to try The Circus, some friends of mine told that it is very good!

But for a beer, Parlament Pub (very nice to watch football games) or Tod's (where they give cards games).

Plus, taxis are really really cheap (3€ from the city centre to the university).

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

My favourite one is Joe Peñas, a Mexican restaurant that take student coupons, so you can eat a Mexican soup, then fajitas or other typical dishes (very generous dishes), and then a dessert with strawberries, for only 3, 8€!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Metelkova, very original neighbourhood! And the view from Ljubljana castle is great.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ljubljana in the future?

I advise anyone to find a room in a shared apartment/house with other Erasmus people.
