Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

My school didn't offer a lot of destination for Erasmus. I didn't know really well the East of Europe or Slovenia and that made me want to spend my Erasmus there. Besides, the student from my school who was returning from his Erasmus in Slovenia told me a lot of good things about his Erasmus (school and life in Slovenia).

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

Most of the Slovenian student come back to their house on the weekend. So student life is more during the week, when there is more people on the city, also the best parties are on Thursday. The weekend is the best time to rest, to do sport, visit some places or going on trip (Zagreb, Venice, Budapest, Vienna, Triest are very near and good for a 2-3 days trip! ).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

The city is quite small so it's easy to know all the places fast, but it's also good sometimes to go out of Ljubljana to not get bored with the city.

There are a lot of Erasmus student here in Ljubljana, a lot of people from different cultures to meet.

What is the food like?

In some restaurant you can eat with 2. 5€ of state's subvention, so you can eat really nice things for not too much money! The Slovenian food seems to be a mixed between Austrian, Italian, Hungarian and Croatian food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

The best to find a nice accommodation is to come quite early to search (beginning of September), but if you're lucky you can still find nice places on the beginning of October (like we do! ).

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

I used to leave near to Paris and for me the life here in Ljubljana is really cheap (food and accommodation, double bedroom are around 100-150 per person, is the most common accommodation, single bedroom are around 200-250, the food in the supermarket is not really cheap, but you can eat for free or for less than 4€ with the student meal).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

For me who didn't follow any Slovenian lesson, is impossible to understand people speaking in Slovenian. There is some language courses available at the University but the places seems hard to get, you have to be fast.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

There are some nice club (K4, Cirkus and others) in Ljubljana, also some nice bars (Cutty sark... ) and Metelkova is an an amazing place.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

The Cantina Mexicana is a good restaurant and you can eat with student meal, and I use to go really often to Foculus (pizza) where we also have the state subvention.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The whole center of Ljubljana is really beautiful, Metelkova is also a nice place to visit. Out of Ljubljana you can visit Bled, Piran, the caves... And because Slovenia is a small country you can easily go in the neighbouring country.
