Erasmus Experience in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Alfonso
Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?
Being the capital of a relatively small nation, with no more than 370, 000 inhabitants, and, as it's such a small country, you can travel from it to other places pretty easily and it doesn't take a long journey going by car, to any other country in the Balkan and central Europe area.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The grant I got was for 9 months, the whole academic course. I don't remember exactly how much money I got, around €225 a month, but part of it came from the EU grant and the other part came from my faculty/local government, because I remember that Andalusian people were getting quite a bit more money than other people, like me.
What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?
It's a city with a lot of student life, as much for the natives as for the Erasmus students.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Ljubljana to other students?
Of course I would.
What is the food like there?
There's not a type of gastronomy that comes from the country exactly, but rather the cuisine is typical of the Balkans area. Pleskabiza, sebachichi, goulash...
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Ljubljana?
If you don't get a place in a residence before you go, finding cheap accommodation in a good location is quite hard and is a bit of a headache, even though they give you a lot of help there to find somewhere here as quickly as they can.

It's a relatively cheap city and even more so for students because they subsidise part of your transport pass and your food there and you have a lot of other facilities.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
The language is pretty difficult, but you'll pick some things up, and the university offers 2 courses, one in October and another in February.
