5 places to ride your bike in Lima

Hello everyone!

I hope that each and every one of you is very well.

My beloved city of Lima that is about to reach 10 million inhabitants, and there is no denying the fact that there is a lot of traffic. Traffic is one of the main problems we have in the city of Lima, and as we know, playing sport helps us to relax and have a better, more active lifestyle.

One of the activities we can take advantage of is riding bicycles, whether it be through our neighbourhood or to save on transport fares. For example, when I was living for some time in Surquillo, I went everywhere on my bicycle every morning from the República de Panamá Avenue passing by Angamos, Arequipa Avenue, and finally through Olivar park to arrive at the Catholic Centre for Languages where I was studying English.

Other times I would also go on longer bicycle routes, like when I went from my house to San Isidro. Obviously, I also did shorter routes like when I went to Barranco along the Costa Verde pier, and also like my last visit to Lima, where I dared to go from Lima North in the district of San Martin de Porres where my family lives, to go to downtown Lima and Salaverry Avenue.

All of this was influenced by my Argentinian friend that I met when I lived with him in Surquillo, and even more when I started to live here in Rimini where riding my bicycle has become almost like a necessity for me. Even from here I have been to San Marino to Cesenatico, and also to Riccione and Santarcangello.

Thinking about all of this, I want to spent this article telling you about all of the places in Lima where you can ride a bike. I know that we don't have bicycle lanes that are connected like those in other cities, but in the end we need to push ourselves to get to know every one of these adventures. If you are close to any of these areas, take advantage of going to these places and help to relax yourself and live a different kind of experience.

Without further ado, let's discover each of the parks that I would recommend you to visit in Lima. Let's go!

1. Campo de Marte

Within this park, Campo de Marte, you will be able to find some bicycle paths. This park can be found in the district of Jesús María and it is one of the larges parks that also has a lot of history. Inside this park in Lima, you will find different monuments and you can also enjoy a long bike ride through the Salaverry Avenue before you leave. Enjoy!

2. Olivar Park

I can't forget to mention one of the oldest parks that we have in Lima, located in the San Isidro district. This park has more than 1, 700 olive trees, and there are also different types of birds in these trees too. The Olivar Park is one of the calmest points that I have been able to go to in San Isidro. San Isidro is the financial district in Lima, and apart from being surround by a residential area, this place is very cosy and is somewhere where you can disconnect. Here, you have to take into account that you must ride your bicycle at a slow pace, but if you want to do a longer route, you can get to one by the Arequipa Avenue, where you can also cycle to Kennedy Park in Miraflores. Just be careful with the cars at the crossroads!

3. La Molina

Although I have not been to the La Molina district that many times, I still would recommend to you that if you live close by this area, you should take a bike ride through La Planicie where you can enjoy the hills and dips located there.

4. El Pentagonito

San Borja is one of the green districts in Lima. Despite being small, it has a large distribution of parks throughout it. One of the parts you can enjoy a bike ride in is the Pentagonito Park which has a special trail for bicycles.

5. La Costa Verde

To round up this list I would like to mention the Costa Verde and its different parks, like the Cisneros pier, the Maria Reiche Park, The Raimondi Park, and the Salazar Park, all of which are located in Miraflores. Furthermore, you can also take advantage in crossing the bridge that borders this district and that of Barranco so that you can continue your route. The most beautiful part of this area is undoubtedly the gorgeous views you have of the Limean Sea.

As we have seen with these 5 options, each one of them is special and can help us to change the city of Lima little by little. Buy a bicycle and start using it! If you want to buy one at a good price, you can find various bike shops in the centre of Lima by the Grau Avenue where there are some economical prices.

I hope that you have enjoyed this little description and I hope that it will help you when you come to Lima. Thank you for reading my recommendations!

Until next time, Lima-lovers, continue discovering more about our city...

I hope you have a great day.
