Could you ever have imagined that The Netherlands has a white-sand endless beach? Well, indeed they have, in Terschelling.
Terschelling is just one of the four big islands situated in the north part of the Netherlands, across the Northern Sea. All of them are inhabited and all of them can be visited.
To get to these islands, you can catch a ferry (around 20 € both ways) in the city of Harlingen (west part of Frÿsland). The ferry trip is indeed quite long, about two hours, although the distance is not so long. The reason is the deepness of the see in that area. This fact can easily be checked in the water color (kind of disgusting brown).
Anyway, don't let that stop you from moving on, get the island and start the real adventure. There are two main ways to get to know the island... by bike (of course, what would be a dutch experience without bikes) and by bus. You can book the pack ferry plus bike rent, and get an special welcome pack in the tourism office. As well as the netherlands, this island is quite flat, so easy to ride.
After you have your transport chosen, there are different places within the island that you can visit. The island has those incredibles beaches in the north (where the water is clear and blue) and the sand is completely white. You can even have go for some fun inside the water (I have tried it in March and it wasn't that cold).
There are also other options to do, cycling paths, and seals territories to visit in the eastern part.
Definitively, I will recommend you to go the island and try it yourself. Nevertheless, if you really want to explore the whole island, I will recommend you to stay a whole weekend (it is possible to rent out a house, although I haven't done it so i can't recommend any in particular). My advice is regarding to the fact, that the last ferry to go back to the continent is leaving at 5:30 pm. So, if you don't want to have my pleasant experience of ride back like hell to the port with my bike against the wonderful west wind to be on time, take it easy by staying the whole weekend.
