What is it like to live in Lagos? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Lagos is the fastest growing city in Nigeria and also Africa. It is quite busy, it can be likened to New York however it depends on the part of the city you find yourself. The cost of living ranges between average to high which is still based on the location. But the fun life of Lagos is thrilling with activities. So I will recommend Lagos
What is the student lifestyle like in Lagos?
One of the best cities to reside as a student, it is the hub for all social activities and learning.
How much does it cost to live in Lagos?
Accommodation is charged yearly unlike European countries where its monthly or weekly, also Airbnb are quite available but not well established yet. Yearly accommodation for a comfortable studio apartment is between $1500- $6,000 with bills included.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lagos? Is there any advice you can give?
It is relatively easy, but most of the apartments are not listed on web pages. So there is a need to contact agents who have the listings of available accommodations. This service is often charged or included with accommodation fees.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
There are various cuisines available ranging from continental to local foods. Nigeria is a diverse nation, so there are so many local foods. I am from the South-west (Lagos) and we are known for solid meals. My favorite is Iyan (pounded yam) with egusi soup (Vegetable and melon soup). So food won't be a problem
What places would you recommend visiting in Lagos?
Every part of Lagos is worth visiting to get a good feel of the city, but I will recommend visiting the beaches which are located on the island (Quite a number of them). Badagry is another place to visit, where there are arts and crafts and also the slave port, museum. Also, the nightlife of victoria island should not be missed and also a visit to the mainland where the main activities happen just to witness the hustle and bustle.
Is it good to eat out in Lagos? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Home made meals or local restaurants are always the best, but there are nice kitchens around the city that serves continental and local dishes to a great taste. Local dishes: White house (Location: Yaba), Sheraton, mama cass
Is the nightlife good in Lagos? Where is good to go?
Quilox, The place, Hard rock cafe. quite a lot of places to visit especially on the island
What advice would you give future students heading to Lagos?
Always have a contact to help you around because transportation can be quite messy.
