Why did you choose to go to Lagos, Nigeria?
I am a Nigerian, and lived in Lagos for many years before going to George-August Universität Göttingen for MSc. Studies and then to University of Liege for Doctoral research.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Not applicable to me.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lagos?
Students are very welcoming and friendly, you will experience a city styled University. University of Lagos is one of the best in Nigeria, the style is more British (Nigeria being a former British colony). though the system may be little different from European, but the cost is quite affordable. I don't know so much about Lagos state university but Lagos as a city is great for visiting students.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lagos to other students?
Very highly recommended. Lagos will give any foreign students a wonderful experience of Nigerian City.
What is the food like?
You will find different cuisines especially as Nigeria is multicultural. Before you enjoy the food please ask whether it has so much pepper. Nigerians like pepperish food.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lagos?
You can easily find accomodation within or outside the campus.
How much does it cost to live in Lagos?
I don't have an accurate statistics of living cost but its sure cheaper than what European cities.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Everyone student and lecturers speak English. You can learn a local language if you like. But its not a problem at all.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lagos from your city?
Flight
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lagos?
Too numerous to mention. Nigerians will be happy to show you arround to all the happening places.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lagos?
same as above. Don't forget to visit Eko-Meridiean
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
you will find plenty of interesting places to visit e.g Bar beach,
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lagos in the future?
Leave your Jackets in Europe before leaving for Lagos. It will be like summer all year round, with intermittent rainfall.
