It's very quiet, very safe, and beautiful in the early winter. Everything is orderly and runs quite efficiently. Trains and buses are rarely late and rarely crowded.

Here the pace of life is laid back. There are lots of parties.
How much does it cost to live in Kuopio?
Rent and food can be quite expensive. There is a subsidised lunch at the University at a good price.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kuopio? Is there any advice you can give?
Two companies provide cheap accommodation for students in Kuopio, as looking for accommodation at the last minute can be challenging. It would be a good idea to reserve a place in advance.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
There is a poor range of dishes here. Cooking at home is a good option.
What places would you recommend visiting in Kuopio?
Koli National Park and Olavinlinna Castle in Savonlinna, which are two hours away by car. Walk around in the forests. Visit Jyväskylä or Tampere in a day.
Is it good to eat out in Kuopio? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It can be quite expensive and there is a poor variety of food. Sampo serves the traditional, local vendace dishes—fun to try once or twice.
Is the nightlife good in Kuopio? Where is good to go?
No idea. There are lots of student parties all the time.
What advice would you give future students heading to Kuopio?
Temperatures can reach -30 degrees Celsius in January, but only for a short period.
