What is it like to live in Kuopio? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

City is nice. It's big but everything you need ylu can find at the city center or then if you have a bus card you can visit Ikea for example. Bus card is essential in Kuopio unless you like to walk 4 km because usually apartments are not in the city center, those are Kuopio student housing's furnished ones.

How much does it cost to live in Kuopio?

Well, Finland is not the cheapest city in the world but you can manage.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kuopio? Is there any advice you can give?

Ask kuopas or from the university you are applying. Kuopio student housing (kuopas) has furnished apartments especially for exchange students and they usually rent the whole building for students who come abroad.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is well, european or finnish. Chicken, fish, meat, reindeer meat even sometimes, but don't worry, Rudolph is unharmed. Elk meat is really good. From the market you can buy fruits and veggies, in summertime from the market place. They are more expensive in the winter time because we don't get fresh fruits and berries from Finland during that time.

What places would you recommend visiting in Kuopio?

Puijl tower, museums, Ale Pub, steam sauna if possible.

Is it good to eat out in Kuopio? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Amarillo, Dos Amigos, Memphis, Rosso, Os (greek), also there are some new japanese style and sushi restaurants...Usually food is good in any restaurant.

Is the nightlife good in Kuopio? Where is good to go?

There is nightlife on Tuesday nights, and then on the weekends. You can try any bars you find interesting. Almost every place has a dance stage and if you like to watch sports and take a beer then Ale Pub or maybe some sports bar is okay.
