Poland through Jurek's eyes: experiences in Kraków
What are the expected living expenses in Kraków?
Considering Polish cities, the most expensive in terms of living costs is Warszawa. Then, we have some of the largest areas Poland has to offer such as: Poznań, Wrocław, Gdańsk and Kraków. Nevertheless, those still figure as relatively cheap, especially when compared to other populous European locations.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kraków? Is there some advice worth following?
Although there are a lot of apartments and spare rooms available on the market, the landlords and agencies will be in favor of renting those for an entire year rather than for just one semester. Therefore, house hunting might prove difficult for an Erasmus student who might not need to stay for such an extended period of time.
Let's talk food: what is it really like? What are some of your favorite dishes?
I would consider Polish food to be very tasty. Still, Kraków offers a colorful variety when it comes to food. There is something for every taste bud here: popular European fast food chains such as KFC and McDonald's as well as those with a more traditional hint, restaurants serving key Polish dishes to show off the country's cuisine - pierogi (dunplings), kotlet schabowy (pork breaded cutlet), żurek (rye soup), bigos (hunter's stew) and many others.
