What is it like to live in Cracovia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Im from Zakopane, small town in the south of Poland, 100 km from Kraków but I study in Krakow. I think is a great place to study, its not so big, its easy to reach almost every place, its easy to learn how to use public transport. I hardly recommend it, especially for studying and even more for do Erasmus! (:

What is the student lifestyle like in Cracovia?

I can say a lot about student lifestyle at my univ AGH University of Science and Technology, because we have our special campus and green area (for drinking beers, playing, chilling) and also grill area for making bbq (: so during spring and when the weather is nice, these areas are full with hundreds of students! i love this time!

How much does it cost to live in Cracovia?

Not that much because we don't have euro in Poland. so mostly our country is cheaper than other european countries. food is not so expensive, alcohol is so cheap!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cracovia? Is there any advice you can give?

At my univ dorms are really cheap (about 350 zl per month, so its even not 100 euro). And i really recommend for erasmus people living in the dorm. its the best opportunity to make friends, go out and also have parties and fun in the dorm. i don't live in the dorm and i hardly regret it :( but i spend a lot of time with my erasmus friends living there :)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Pierogi (dumplings) typical polish. it depends on tastes. mostly the food is rather fat, polish people like meat a lot! (i dont, maybe im not polish?! :o)

What places would you recommend visiting in Cracovia?

Wawel castle, Kazimierz (Jewish area - and here - u have to taste Zapiekanka - typical food of this area! ), walk along Vistula River (see the bridge full with locks - Kładka Bernatka). Kopiec Kościuszki (Kościuszki Mound) to see the view of Kraków. Museums, trip to Salt Mine and Auschwitz, trip o Zakopane (my hometown) to see Tatra mountains (when the weather is good! )

Is it good to eat out in Cracovia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yeahhh you can find some really cheap places with good food! for example really erasmus place "Banialuka" - every food for 2euro, every drink for 1 euro! good deal, isnt it? "Pod Wawelem' - with typical polish food, mooore expensive, Warsztat, U Babci Maliny(pierogi here! )

Is the nightlife good in Cracovia? Where is good to go?

ohhhh its so good. if you dont have before at the dorm, you can always go to Banialuka or Pijalnia wódki i piwa (in here also shot, beer, wine for 4zł = 1 euro! and on Mondays.. killing discount for students! half prices till 22! OMG, really! ) and everyday you can find parties, there are so many erasmus students in Kraków!

What advice would you give future students heading to Cracovia?

Prepare your livers! hahahah and warm clothes, sometimes it's snowy, rainy and cold. but its worth it! Kraków has really great own climate and atmosphere!
