Experience in Krakow, Poland by Marta
What is it like to live in Krakow? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Krakow is my lovely city that I used to live there on my first year of college and I miss it so much! I highly recommend that city as everyone can find something for itself. Krakow hides and uncover the most mysterious, magical places in Poland. It is visited by travelers hungry of history, art, entertainment and many many others. It such a great city that it's worth to come there!
What is the student lifestyle like in Krakow?
Student lifestyle in Krakow is busy, crazy and happy. During the week they travel by public communication, that can take you everywhere, can find whatever place they need to live and manage themselves, and the during the weekend students have lots of fun and joy on the Main Squere, many, many clubs and pubs, pool bars, concerts halls and clubs, couple of cinemas and wonderful theatres. Everything is close, there is plenty to do ;)
How much does it cost to live in Krakow?
Krakow isn't the most expensive city. There is plenty of supermarkets like Tesco or Lidl. There is couple of big shopping centres with well know brands and entertainment ;)
Polish currency is approx 4x less worth than euro (1e= 4zl) so you know ;)
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Krakow? Is there any advice you can give?
Gumtree.pl or krakow.dlastudenta.pl/stancje are the best advise :) There is plenty offers, possible to find a good deal even a week before academic year. Prices are from even 250 zl/msc. If I can say, Biezanów is far and can be dangerous location. Ruczaj is far too but flats are just lovely! The most enjoyable location is Kazimierz or Old Town, I recommend them tho ;)
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Depends what you like. Lots of fast food places, many mc spots. Plenty of Students milk bars, cheap but with good assortment. Those are located near to main universities so its possible to have a quick lunch between classes. Polish kitchen is great tho. Beetroot soup and then chicken chop, mash potatoes and cucumber salad omomomom! :)
What places would you recommend visiting in Krakow?
The worst question ever! Krakow is full of permanent as well as temporary attractions!
Beginning from Wawel Castle, which is old, very well kept and monumental, then Schindler's factory for funs of II World War and Jude issue;Underground Museum, National Museum, Jagiellonian Library, Botanic Garden, Phenomenons Garden, Aircraft Museum and many many more!!!
Is it good to eat out in Krakow? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Mostly Milk bars are places where are used to eat, preferably Bar Studencki on Czysta Street :)
Is the nightlife good in Krakow? Where is good to go?
Nightlife is awesome! Approx 40 clubs just in the city centre, variety of music, styles. Always lively Main Squere, restaurants and pubs all around. Students enjoy all of that from Thursday (students' Thursdays) to Saturday and then all city is ours! :) It's fun, real madness! :)
What advice would you give future students heading to Krakow?
Get a flat in city centre (Plac Inwalidów, Bagatela would make it), visit as many clubs as possible and chose 5 that suit you the most as a choice is enormous, talk to foreign ppl, they are keen on Krakow, and enjoy you staying!
