Erasmus Experience in Krakow, Poland by Ekin
Why did you choose to go to Krakow, Poland?
Jagiellonian University was the best of my options. I did not really choose the city.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I have the scholarship for 12 months which is 340€ per month
What is the student lifestyle like in Krakow?
Student lifestyle is really nice here. There are many students in Krakow which means we have many people to hang out with. And it is not hard to follow the classes and party at the same time. We can do both no need to choose between school and night life
Would you recommend the city and the University of Krakow to other students?
I would definitely recommend Krakow and UJ
What is the food like?
Food is awesome. I'm worried about getting fat :D
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Krakow?
It was not as cheap as I wanted but still it was very easy to find an accomodation via internet (especially via facebook)
How much does it cost to live in Krakow?
if you eat at home at least 1 of the meals and have your first couple of beers at home before going out I think it is easy to survive with 30 zloty per day. Some days I don't even spend 1 zloty but of course it depends on the person and depends on where he/she wants to hang out
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
there are language courses in the university but learning Polish is pretty hard. I've been here for more than 2 months but I can only say some basic stuff like 'hello' 'thanks' etc and count up to 10. But to be honest I didn't really try to learn
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Krakow from your city?
I came here by plane but it is not the most economical way for sure. I heard many people using train and bus. Depends on your city I can not relly say anything
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Krakow?
Most of the events are around the main square and Kazimiers. Main square is good for clubs but I prefer bars around Kazimiers
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Krakow?
Food is good so I think you can choose any place. For lunch there is a place called 'Olimp' close to the campus. They serve Polish food it is not expensive and they also have student discounts. I like having my lunch there. For dinner there is a place next to Bania Luke (1st one) which not expensive and nice but I don't remember the name of it
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Concentration camps and the salt mine is pretty popular
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Krakow in the future?
Follow the pages like 'Erasmus Krakow' on facebook and your universities ESN page. They are very good for both finding an accomodation and following the events
