An Erasmus Experience in Kraków de Ander

Why did you choose to go to Kraków, Poland?

I had been told how good the city was. It's the second city in Europe which receives the most Erasmus students. It is a very cheap city and is in an excellent location to travel to the rest of Europe.

How long was your grant for? How much money did you receive?

In my case the grant lasted 3 months (Erasmus+: I received this for doing a higher module). I got 900€ in total (300€ every month).

What's the student lifestyle like in Krakow?

It's amazing! It has everything a student could want: Parties, good food, excellent bars and a lot to see.

The most important week for students is the 10-15th May, Juwenalia, a university festival. It's a week of concerts and activities organised by the different universities.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Kraków to other students?

Of course, I recommend it 100%. In my case, I wasn't at the university. I did the training for my module in a city at the edge of Wielizcka.

What was the food like in the country?

It's so good and there is so much to choose from. The most typical are the Pierogis and the Zapiekanka. The best Zapiekankas are from the Kazimierz (Plac Nowy), then to eat traditional Polish food you can go to Pod Wawelen or to the "grandma". Also there is Moa Burguer, which makes exceptional hamburgers. If you only want to eat a little, then there are the dairies where they have homemade Polish dishes for a cheap price.

How did you find the language? Did you do any course at the University?

The language is very difficult, but I advise you to know some of the most common phrases (good morning, goodbye, thank you). As I've already said, I did my training elsewhere.

What is the economic way to get to Kraków from your city?

By plane is the best way.

How was the public transport?

To move around by public transport is the best option. I'd suggest that you get a public transport card. Get ISIC so you can go out for a lot cheaper. Download the App Jakdojade so you know the bus and train timetables.

Which places would you recommend going out to in Kraków?

Monday: (18:00 to 22:00) Pijalnia if you have the ISIC 50% discount, (22:00 to 02:00) Tandem, (02:00 until closing) Goraczka.

Tuesday: Afera (an open bar from 22:00 to 24:00)

Wednesday: I don't know which club it is that the have the Kakao party, but on Wednesdays, Erasmus students usually go out to Huki Muki, especially the Spanish (it's full).

Thursday: Afera.

Friday: Baccarat (I think that there is also an open bar from 22:00 to 24:00).

Saturday: Afera (In my opinion Afera is the best club, especially on Saturdays, because it is full of people and it's open until 8am).

Sunday: Goraczka.

How was the cultural side?

I'd suggest that you do the Free Tour which takes you around the Basilica, in Spanish, Kraków centre and the Jewish Quarter. Auschwitz is also a must.

Do you have any advice for future students in Kraków?

Enjoy every moment you spend there. It is a experience that you're not going to do again, don't waste it, make the most of it!

Na zdrowie!
