Alejandra's Erasmus experience in Krakow
Why did you choose to go to Krakow, Poland?
Honestly? I chose it mainly because it was the cheapest destination but the more time passed by and the more I discovered about Krakow, the more I loved it.
How long does the grant last? How much grant money do you receive?
The grant, whatever it is, covers only one semester of your stay abroad (as the Erasmus grant is normally for one semester), in case your stay is one year long or if it is extender you will have to bear with the costs of it.
How is the student life in Krakow?
Krakow is full of students , there are obviously many Polish students, but there are even more Erasmus students, it's unbelievable, especially the amount of Spanish students you will find in Krakow.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Krakow to other students?
Of course! I highly recommend it, in this city you will live the Erasmus experience to the fullest.
What about the gastronomy of the country?
It's delicious . The Polish gastronomy is very good. There isn't strange food. Your diet will consist of pierogis and zapiekankas... you will see.
Where would you recommed to go for a night out in Krakow?
There are a bunch of them! . It all depends on the kind of atmosphere you're looking for. The best one in my opinion is Bacarat on Friday nights because you can have drinks for free but there are parties every single day in many different places. In my case there have been weeks that I have gone out from Monday to Sunday in a row. If you're looking for something more relaxing, I'd recommend to Jewish district.
And for eating out? Could you recommend your favourite spots?
There are a lot of options for eating out, but I must say that in my opinion Pod Wawelem is the best one because of its food, its architecture, its atmosphere and its discounts. On Mondays, for example, there's a discount with which you can have 1 liter of beer for just € 1. 5. Also, you will find the best zapiekankas in the world in the Jewish district. Bardo, Koko or La abuela are some other cheap bars. In Moaburger you will find the best burgers although it's a bit more expensive (not much).
¿Which cultural sites would you recommend to visit?
There are a lot of Free Tours organised by the City Council during which you will visit the most historical places in the city, both the city centre and the Jewish district of Krakow. Krakow is all history . You should also visit Auschwitz - Birkenau and the Salt Mines, these are mandatory visits when you are in Krakow.
