Why did you choose to go to Kortrijk, Belgium?

I originally wanted to go to the Netherlands so I could learn Dutch, but the places were already taken so I chose Kortrijk as the only Dutch-speaking city left.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship is 5 months and I get 400 euros every month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Kortrijk?

I live in the Vives student residence, there is always something going on in the kitchen. I mostly hang out with Belgian friends in the evenings, but whenever I choose to stay in, I see people having fun in the kitchen. Clubs are in very limited numbers, but I found one that's more alternative and my style so I don't mind. There are quite a few nice pubs too just to hang out and have some drinks.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Kortrijk to other students?

I would totally recommend the city to anyone, even to more artsy, introvert and alternative people. I expected a bit of a dull town, with more country-sideish vibe, but this city turned out to be one of the most diverse places I have ever been to. It's kind of small and quiet, but you have a lot of options to entertain yourself. As for the university, Vives is a really nice place to study at. Modern buildings and equipment, mainly helpful and friendly teachers. Yeah, sure I would recommend it. As a marketing student, I would say that it's more about skills, than actual knowledge, but for me it's really useful.

What is the food like?

I don't really eat out, so I don't know about many restaurants, but supermarkets have a pretty nice selection of ready-made food for the lazy ones. You can find mainly quality products in stores.

How much does it cost to live in Kortrijk?

My room costs 290 euros/month, it comes with its own bathroom, kitchens are shared.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Kortrijk from your city?

From Budapest I took the plane to Charleroi, then friends picked me up, so I traveled by car, but you can take the bus to Brussels Central Station, then the train to Kortrijk.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Kortrijk?

My choice would be a bar called deDingen, then I'd go to Den Trap after a few drinks. But I usually party at friends' place.
