An unique street

Čevljarska ulica, literally translated as 'Shoemaking street' is a narrow street in the old town centre of Koper. The street got its name exactly because of what the name tells you: In the past, this street used to have a variety of shoemakers' shops and shoe repairing stores. Sadly, the tradition was replaced with more modern stores, but you can still find some authentic shoemaker stores with a long tradition, for example Peko and Alpina.

Čevljarska ulica is one of the most interesting streets in Koper, and also the most visited one during summer holidays. Here, you can find various clothing stores, from cheap to expensive ones, souvenir shops, Lush cosmetics shop, L'Occitaine store, a bakery, some boutiques, previously mentioned shoemaking stores, Piranska Sol shop, where you can buy souvenirs, assocciated to the Piran salt, and so on. If you want to buy great souvenirs, definitely visit the Piranska Sol shop. There, you can buy salty chocolate ( which is not tasty at all and a small bar costs about three Euros), a salt candle ( which smells really good and costs five Euros) among other things. There are also three bars and a restaurant along the Čevljarska ulica.

In summer evenings, you can hear some pretty good street artists, which either sing, play guitar or drums or other instruments, or everything combined.

How to get there?

Koper is a small city, so you do not need a public transport to get from one part of the city to the very other part. You can access Čevljarska ulica from Titov trg (Tito's square). When you are at the square, find the store called Mercator – it has a red label. On the right side of the store, you will see an arch, leading down the street, and a small bar right after it. This street is Čevljarska ulica. At the end of Čevljarska ulica, you can either turn left, which will take you to the Vrata Muda and fountain Da Ponte ( which is another famous Koper attraction), or you can keep walking straight, which will take you to Pristaniška ulica. This street is another nice spot for walking on sunny days.

In winter days, this street becomes very romantic for late evening walks because of all the lights and Christmas decoration.
