Erasmus Experience in Konstanz, Germany by Andrei
Why did you choose to go to Konstanz, Germany?
Because I wanted to learn German and Konstanz seemed like a good option as a university in Germany.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
For one year, 370 € per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Konstanz?
Well, there is a dorm called Europahus and you can find a party here almost every night. In summer you can swim in the lake for free (it's a really big lake) and in winter you have a thermal pool to go to (and a normal one as well which is cheaper). It's in the center of Europe so you can travel a lot.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Konstanz to other students?
Yes, both the university and the city are very nice.
What is the food like?
For my taste really good, you have a wide variety of stuff like for meat stuff their "würste" which is extremely good and for vegetarians they have all sorts of salads. At the university you can choose from 2 menus daily (vegetarian or non vegetarian) which are really good value or you can choose from a lot of other foods there.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Konstanz?
The student union called Seezeit found it for me. They charged 50 €.
How much does it cost to live in Konstanz?
450-600€ depending if you drink or not.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language is extremely hard to learn. There are free courses available at the univeristy (not only German you can chose others as well if you would like)
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Konstanz from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Konstanz?
The clubs are pretty bad here so I would say go for a beer at Hafenhalle or some place around. If you really want to go to a club, the popular one between students seems to be Berry's.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Konstanz?
Hafenhalle (expensive but good), a french one of which the name I forgot (extremely good stuff and a lot of fine foods and also pretty decent prices as well, it's near the statue if you want to search for it).
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Stephan's Monastery, Zeppelin Museum, Rosengarten Museum, Island Hotel (even though a hotel it was built on top of an really old monastery and the paintings inside and other stuff are still there).
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Konstanz in the future?
Come here, it's amazing!
