Experience in Kiev, Ukraine by Anna
What is it like to live in Kiev? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Kiev is a big city and it has several parts which differ from each other. Of course during the weekdays the city center is full of busy people but on the weekends it becomes so adorable! A lot of people just have a walk near the biggest river Dnipro, or on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti where roads are close on Saturday.
What is the student lifestyle like in Kiev?
Here, in Ukraine, students have different lifestyles! Someone regularly studying, or doing sport (like football, or basketball, swimming, dancing, tennis, etc.), or partying all night long!
In Ukraine students can find lots of activities!
How much does it cost to live in Kiev?
I think, for students from Europe, the cost of live in Ukraine will be not so high. So, students should not be afraid of high prizes.
If coming students wants to visit some museums (for instance), they can find out that there are a lot of free places for students. Otherwise, they can cost around 10€.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kiev? Is there any advice you can give?
No, it’s not very difficult because Kiev is a big city, so you can find here lots of cheap accommodations in a good new buildings which are near the city center. Or you can choose a dormitory.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is so nice! There, in Ukraine, we have our national very delicious food and, also, a lot of places with food of other nations (like Italian, Chinese, Vietnam cuisines, etc). So, students from other countries can come there when they miss their homes and feel free because almost everywhere the workers speak in English (or maybe they can even know your mother-language!).
What places would you recommend visiting in Kiev?
- National Art Museum of Ukraine
- Kiev Zoo “12 months”
- National Museum of the History of Ukraine
- National Museum of Natural History at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
- One Street Museum
Is it good to eat out in Kiev? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
My favorite food places in Ukraine are:
- Star Burgers
- Sushia (Сушия) or Eurasia (Євразія) - places where you can eat good sushi
- Cinnabon (in Globus or Ocean Plaza shopping centers)
Is the nightlife good in Kiev? Where is good to go?
In the evening students can go tho the huge national parks, or restaurants/ cafes, go to the cinema or just have a walk with friends! And, of course, there are a lot of different night clubs and bars!
What advice would you give future students heading to Kiev?
My only advice is to open your soul for Kiev, try to visit as much places as you want, try Ukrainian food, listen to Ukrainian music and travel to other cities like Lviv or to Carpathian mountains. Feel free yourself and don’t be afraid of being misunderstood or Ukrainian citizens. Everyone here is kind and can help you anytime!
