What is it like to live in Kaunas? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's the second biggest city in Lithuania after the capital Vilnius. It's quite big (to go from one end of the city to the other by car takes at least 30 minutes if there's not to much traffic). I would definetely recommend it, because it's a pretty nice city to live in.

What is the student lifestyle like in Kaunas?

Good! Lots of parties and not so much studying (if you prefer it that way of course).

How much does it cost to live in Kaunas?

The city isn't expensive, you can find a normal apartment near a bus or trolleybus stop for like 300-600 Lt.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kaunas? Is there any advice you can give?

It can be difficult, because every year a lot of new students arrive from other cities or the countryside to study here. I suggest you'd better find an apartament before you come here (check sites like www.aruodas.lt or www.plius.lt, of course, there are many more).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

For me it's perfect, because I'm local. You have to try cepelinai, zemaiciu blynai, kugelis, saltibarsciai, barsciu sriuba, bulviniai blynai and of course saslykai.

What places would you recommend visiting in Kaunas?

There's lots of them: the Laisves aleja street, the oldtown, Kaunas castle, Aleksotas viewpoint, Milikoniai viewpoint, Lampedziai beach (if you're here in the spring semester), Kauno marios, Pazaislis monastery and park, Panemunes silas park, and yes Kadagiu slenis (it's about 30km from Kaunas, but it's definetely worth it).

Is it good to eat out in Kaunas? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Of course, my favourite ones are: Arena pizza, Bella Italia, Pas Romano, Pas Paolo, G-Loft, Medziotoju uzeiga, Piano Piano, Avilys, Pizza Express, Gan Bei, of course there are a lot of kebab shops, sushi spots, 2 Mcdonald's( we have one fast food joint that's pretty much like McDonald's which is called Hesburger).

Is the nightlife good in Kaunas? Where is good to go?

It's really good starting from thursday. You should definitely go to these clubs: Macao, Barbara, Chaos, Dejavu, Mojo lounge. There are a few strip clubs for those who like it. And yes, a lot of bars and pubs.

What advice would you give future students heading to Kaunas?

If you think of going to Lithuania only choose from the 3 major cities: Kaunas, Vilnius or Klaipeda. You won't be dissapointed.
