What is it like to live in Kaunas? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Kaunas, the second home for me actually. People are tolerantic and friendly. Kaunas also has beautiful architecture, a long Freedom avenue. I am only studying in Kaunas of my friends, because they don't like Kaunas, they love Vilnius (it's a capital of Lithuania). My friend from Turkey is planning to visit Lithuania, so I am preparing for list of objects and cities to visit with him.

What is the student lifestyle like in Kaunas?

Students has lots of opportunities in Kaunas, After lectures they can participate in non-formal activities. Studying here, I go to my karate trainings, university gym, and also I am Faculty Student Representative. At weekends with friends go somewhere. So that's all.

How much does it cost to live in Kaunas?

It depends from every student how he spends him free time, whether he pays of studies or not. My parents pay for my studies and give me about 400 euros for subsistence (accomodation, food, some home things, my trainings: 20 euro per month... ). I think 400 euro is enough to live in Kaunas.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kaunas? Is there any advice you can give?

If you really want, you will find. But the prices of apartments are high. In the first course I decided to live in dormitory. I had to share room with other girl, but I was lucky. My roomate is my new best friend. Everyday we cook together, help each other, go somewhere to dance and drink... My father and other older friend advised to try to live in a dormitory for one year. I am happy to accept this suggestion. I also recommend to do as I did. My university Erasmus students live in a dormitories, they have a person, who helps them various questions and problems.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Lithuania food is the same. You can find Chinese, American, Italian food and others... I eat everything, but healthy.

What places would you recommend visiting in Kaunas?

I suggest to visit the castle of Kaunas, and the panorama of Aleksotas. These places are very beautiful, especially, panorama at night.

Is it good to eat out in Kaunas? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are some places, where I with friends always eat. Talutti is a place, where you can find in MeNU everything. You will always be full of food. Second place "Hesburger" o "Mc Donalds", if we have not much time, we eat there.

Is the nightlife good in Kaunas? Where is good to go?

Yes! You can go to the bar, for example, Džempub, and Republic. If you want to dance, you can go to the dance clubs: Taboo, Mojo Lounge Kaunas, Dejavu and many others. If you feel hungry in the evening, you can visit Todže. There are fried dumplings and kebabai, but it is not healthy.

What advice would you give future students heading to Kaunas?

When you come to Kaunas, meet local friends, they will show you best places and bars of Kaunas. In the first course enjoy student life, spend your time with others, go to the workshops, and try to participate in Student Representative council. These are my advices.
