Experiencia Erasmus en Katowice, Polonia de Carlos
Why did you choose to go to Katowice, Polonia?
Katowice is a city in the region of silesia (the south of Poland).
This is a strategic place because you will be able to visit many different countries, such as Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia...
Also, another good factor to be taken into account is the cost of living, which is really cheap (you will be like a king).
Moreover, you will have the chance to discover Poland.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Actually I'm receiving 150€ each month (during 7 months) + 200€ each month during all my Erasmus period (as far as I remember).
What is the student lifestyle like in Katowice?
Katowice is a nice place with a wonderful university.
There are students from different cities in Poland also you will find ucranian people and more erasmus student. From my own experience, you will have loads of parties and activities to do.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Katowice to other students?
Absolutely.
Take the chance and enjoy the Erasmus adventure.
What is the food like?
I don't recommend the local food.
I'm from Spain and we have more variety of food (fish, good meat, legumes... )
Here you won't enjoy the typical polish food. But some friends felt in love with it.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Katowice?
I'm living in the residence of ligota, with more erasmus students. It's a basic place to live but it's really lively.
I recommend you the residence option, more than a flat.
How much does it cost to live in Katowice?
Don't worry about the money, cost of living is really cheap.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Polish language is really difficult.
Unless you take polish courses (like me), you won't understand anything.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Katowice from your city?
That's a funny question, because I'm from Cáceres (middle west of Spain) and there is not a cheap travel.
I had to take a bus from Cáceres to Madrid, after that a plane to Cracow, and finally an uber from Cracow to Katowice.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Katowice?
Spiż, pomarańcza, bavitto, incubator...
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Katowice?
If you want something simple, you have the chance to get a delicious burger in mad Mick and in club jazz hypnosis, or you can also find sushi in galeria katowicka.
But if you want something more elaborated, you have "el patio" ( an Italian restaurant) or Vietnamese restaurant in the center.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
It's a terrible idea, the city has nothing.
It better to go to Cracow.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Katowice in the future?
Just have fun, travel, study, make new friends (specially international friends), take into consideration polish culture, you are discovering a new place and traditions. Enjoy and have fun!
