Erasmus in Katowice, Poland

My name is Chiara and I lived in Katowice for 5 months on Erasmus. It was an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life as I've met some of the most incredible people. I also managed to experience personal growth and development and its all thanks to living alone, outside of my comfort zone.

Katowice is a very different city compared to the rest of Poland. It's underdeveloped and small. Although it took me a while to get used to it (as it's not the most beautiful nor entertaining city) I grew to love it nonetheless. In some cases, its the company that matters not the environment. However, it doesn't offer much. There aren't many touristic places nor things to do. Hardly any student hubs or nightlife either. But it's not all bad.

With regards to accommodation, even though I did manage to book a room through here, I was highly disappointed. I was paying for a 250 EUROS bedroom in a 10 bedroom apartment with no living room or tv. With only two bathrooms and a small kitchen. It felt like I was living in a chicken coop. Although I adored all of my roommates, as we got along really well, I do NOT recommend both the apartment nor the landlord.

I've met horrible and unprofessional people in my life, but no one compares to Marcin Kuśnierz. His only intention is to rip students off and deceive them. He only wanted to rent the bedrooms to women and came to the apartment whenever he pleased and stayed there for hours for no reason at all. However, he had the nerve to ignore us and our phone calls whenever we needed something, claiming that he couldn't understand our English and should "learn Polish" instead.

He hasn't paid me my deposit back and I moved out almost 2 months ago. Anger and frustration do not begin to describe how I'm feeling towards this pathetic man.

So word of advice, please please please, be careful whom you rent a bedroom from because they won't care about you. They'll only care about your money.
