What is it like to live in Katowice? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Katowice is a very vibrant city nowadays, there are a lot of young people from various parts of the world. I like living here, because there are both peaceful places such as green areas, parks and more noisy and crowded places such as shopping malls, high streets. Almost all the time our city is being rebuilt, modern buildings are becoming so popular thanks to which Katowice is becoming more and more attractive.

What is the student lifestyle like in Katowice?

Students spend a lot of time at the University. We have many lectures, workshops almost every day. But apart from studying, we have also a lot of time for entertainment. Students like going out to the city center, where there are many pubs and restaurants. Very often we gather in such a pub in the evenings and we drink beers having a good time together. It is a great occasion to get rid of stress after hard studying.

How much does it cost to live in Katowice?

Of course the city center is the most expensive, there are many residential areas around (not very cheap), but dorms are more available for students having less money with them. The monthly cost of living in such a dormitorium is about 350- 400 zlotys. Well, it is not as expensive as living in a nice apartment around a city center (the cost is about 700- 1000 zlotys per month).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Katowice? Is there any advice you can give?

I think it is not difficult to find accommodation here, as I wrote above, we have many residential areas and dorms available for students. Sometimes other students offer an extra room in their apartments or shared rooms, etc.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can eat in Katowice whatever you want. Really, there are various restaurants, students' canteens, so there is no problem with finding your favourite type of food. We have also McDonald's and stuff like this. I like eating pizza, pasta- there are many famous pizzerias here.

What places would you recommend visiting in Katowice?

I would recommend visiting the city center, our new Gallery of Katowice, another very famous and popular shopping center- Silesia City Center. I mentioned that we had many green areas, well I think it is good to go to park in Chorzów, where people usually ride a bike or simply walk with their families, park Kościuszki or park Trzy Stawy- it is really cool!

Is it good to eat out in Katowice? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Prices in restaurants are not too high in Katowice, there are many places where you do not have to spend a great amount of money for something to eat. We have McDonald's, Kebabs, outlets offering vegetarian food or pizza and italian dishes.

Is the nightlife good in Katowice? Where is good to go?

The best place for partying is without any doubts- Mariacka Street, where there are many pubs. In the summer there are chairs on the street around every single pub. Students like spending time with their friends just there. Believe me. If you like dancing and spending time more actively, you can go out to many discos- Pomarańcza, Energy, Kwadraty, Arkady, etc.
