Why did you choose to go to Katowice, Poland?

Mainly because It was cheap, but also because its centric position in the map which is great for travelling to the countries around and to other Polish cities.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

5 months.
Around 1000€ combining two grants.

What is the student lifestyle like in Katowice?

Normally it's very easy to pass, you don't need to do anything, you won't study or do much.

Prices are great for students if you get the ESN card.
Lots of parties and great activities.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Katowice to other students?

Absolutely.

What is the food like?

Polish food is really nice, and Katowice has a great variety of food, even for vegans, and cheap prices.
Durum for 2'5€ for instance, and a normal quality meal is about 5€

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Katowice?

Yes because we had some problems with the residence, it's not easy sometimes, but I recommend the DS7, people there are great, together all the time.

How much does it cost to live in Katowice?

155€ a month in residence.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Some basics are easy and useful. If you really want to learn it it's hard but there is a free course.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Katowice from your city?

Plane to Cracow then train.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Katowice?

Pomaranza, Fame or DS0 for partying. Also bars in Mariaska like Pijalnia or Piwiarnia.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Katowice?

Vegan restaurant in Mariaska (and i'm not vegan but still it's great). Also Hurry Curry, Zapikanki un Mariaska, Pasibus...

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Lots of statues or buildings related to the history of the city and its mining past. Also a museum, beautiful churches, Spodek, the mines...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Katowice in the future?

It's the perfect place for the classic idea of an Erasmus, especially in DS7. It's dirty at first but it gets much better and you'll regret leaving.
