Experience in Jyväskylä, Finland by Esa
What is it like to live in Jyväskylä? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend it. There are very good facilities for every type of sport. Everything you need is nearby.
What is the student lifestyle like in Jyväskylä?
It's really good.
How much does it cost to live in Jyväskylä?
Jyväskylä is very cheap compared to Helsinki, for example. I live in Kortepohja Student Village where I pay 271€ for a studio apartment. Water, internet and electricity included.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Jyväskylä? Is there any advice you can give?
It has been super easy for me.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
I like to eat pizza and here you can find a lot of Middle-Eastern pizzerias.
What places would you recommend visiting in Jyväskylä?
For example Harju on the 1st of May.
Is it good to eat out in Jyväskylä? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I can reccomend Amarillo and Revolution for good hamburgers, Sakura Gawa for the Chinese food. There are good pancakes in Pannukakkutalo.
Is the nightlife good in Jyväskylä? Where is good to go?
Nightlife is different for sure. The places are way smaller. Freetime is my favorite. Vakiopaine if you're looking for more bohemian atmosphere, it's a place where you can actually talk to your friends, but it's not a big place and there's always a lot of people. If you want better beer than just Finnish lager you should go to Harry's or Vihreä Haltiatar.
What advice would you give future students heading to Jyväskylä?
Academic sports may be the best place to meet the natives!
