Erasmus Experience in Jaen, Spain by Andrea

Why did you choose to go to Jaen, Spain?

My doctoral work has two major topics. One of them is pesticide analysis.The Physical and Analytical Chemistry Department of the University of Jaen in Spain , which has more than one decade experience of the field of pesticide residues and their metabolites analysis. This department has outstanding facilitates in the whole of Europe. They have all of the equipment that is needed to sample preparation and they have the whole spectrum of separation techniques,(LC,GC)coupled with small and high resolution mass spectrometric instruments.(Q3, TOF) .Above all this they have daily contact with the Microbiological Department of University of Jaen (they are able to do fermentation experiments) and with the National Laboratory of Pesticide Reference. So the Reference materials and the SOP papers can be directly accessed from the department.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It is conttani direin 5 monts.

What is the student lifestyle like in Jaen?

I dont know , unfortunately i spend all of my time in the department,and i am resarching. Therefore i am not able to participate the organised Erasmus programes. But during 3 month i collect lot of data and i am able to startid the write a cientific article. :)

Would you recommend the city and the University of Jaen to other students?

Yes of course. The people here are very kindly , and helpful.

What is the food like?

Lot of, i cant choue. I learned preaper some of them.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Jaen?

No

How much does it cost to live in Jaen?

200 euro accommodatin and owerheads 200 euro to live

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

I dont know i dont study I  am reserching.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Jaen from your city?

Airplain to Madrid after that train from Madrid to Jaen

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Jaen?

The tapas bars. For example El abuelo. :) I like it

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Jaen?

No I usually cook . It is the most cheapest way. But in the Uni in the C4 building is a Cafetaria . This is not so expensive 5.5 euro the menu 2 plate, drink , sweats

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Around andalusia
Jaen :Catedral , Castle .Arab bath. old cyty
Cordoba, Malaga, Sevilla, :Ubeda Bazea .....ec.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Jaen?

Yes a lot but the most important ..Start to learn Spainish . There nobody speak English only in the Uni .
