Iaitas
Coming from the highway, we went on to see Iaitas, a city which was a centre of Muslim resistance to emperor Frederic II in the 13th century and was destroyed by him in 1246.
On the plain, you could see smoke rising up in many places ... intentional fires to burn dried vegetation?
The walls could be seen close up from a pathway ... it was strange to think that the city had been razed to the ground!
This triangular hole could have been part of the sewer system.
Surprisingly, the floor mosaics had survived the destruction of the city ...
Part 2 will follow!
