Erasmus Experience in Innsbruck, Austria by Maria Isabel
Why did you choose to go to Innsbruck, Austria?
I chose Innsbruck because Austria has always been one of my favourites countries.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I've been here for four months, from October to the first week of February. I've received a bit more more than 1. 000€.
What is the student lifestyle like in Innsbruck?
There are a lot of students so the atmosphere is really good, and in the pubs there are always young people to get to know.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Innsbruck to other students?
Yes, I really like this city is easy to go to places cause the city have a really good bus connection. You have the chance to buy a semesterticket that costs 130€ that one is only for Innsbruck but there's also the Tirolticket that costs 180€. With this one you can travel by train or bus inside the Tirol without paying any kind of ticket, so this is really good for travel.
What is the food like?
I like it, it's different but really good. The sweets are really good, all of them have cinnamon but really good and the cakes are even better.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Innsbruck?
It was easy for me cause my university told me where to search I used web page, they search a dormitory for you.
How much does it cost to live in Innsbruck?
My room is no more than 300€ but it depends on he dormitory you found. The only thing I think is more expensive here is the fruit, the rest is almost the same price.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
In the courses I have no problem but the German they speak in the street is different and can be difficult to understand. The University of Innsbruck offers free courses.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Innsbruck from your city?
I am from Alicante and I came here flying from Alicante to Munich and then I took a bus from the Munich airport to Innsbruck. The bus company is Flixbus, it is cheaper than others. I went to Munich cause the Innsbruck airport is really expensive.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Innsbruck?
I don't go out so often but I hear that there are some Irish pubs that have a good atmosphere and good beer.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
You can visit the castle, the palace, the tower and more things.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Innsbruck in the future?
Have fun and enjoy! Time goes really fast and bring warm shoes.
