A little piece of heaven
If they ever tell my story let them say I was an Erasmus. Iasi was my town, C5 was my home, 205 was my room.
Let them ask why Romania, for those who did not live the adventure will always be wondering.
I would still answer though, it’s not about the country, it’s about the people. In fact, living with someone for 24/7 creates a space for them in your soul, they occupy that space and hence they become part of you. Today, I am half Tunisian half International.
However, when they leave, that space becomes empty, and we start looking for somethinng, anything, to fill that void they left within us.
I don’t remember myself eating alone, or even sleeping alone. Now that I left, I wake up everyday looking for my roommate who used to share my bed. I still wait for Sarah Marengo to come crying in my room just because she’s overthinking. I can still hear the laughs of spanish people at the end of the corrider.
I think of us as a painting. It’s kind of beautiful if you think about it, the fact that just because someone leaves you, just because you can’t see them anymore, it doesn’t mean they’re not still in the painting. I think maybe that’s the point of the whole thing. That's why we meet in the first place. There’s no you, or me, or them, it’s just us. And the sloppy, wild colorful, magical thing that has no beginning, it has no end, it’s right here. I think it’s us.
Now that I left, my day seems to be longer, as if the clock hands are too sad for me that they move in a very slow motion in an attempt not to wake my supressed pain.
If they ever live my story, let them remember that what happens in Erasmus stays in Erasmus.
