What is it like to live in Hamburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Hamburg is a great city to live in. It is one of the greenest cities in Germany. It has various activities and attractions to offer: inside, if the typical Hamburg weather is striking or outside, in the central park or around the Alster. Hamburg is a multicultural city; from chic and rich to alternative and hipster, everything is represented.

What is the student lifestyle like in Hamburg?

The night life, bars and clubs might be of special interest for students. For example, with the Reeperbahn area, everything is at hand in one spot. If you are more interested in a big diversity of bars, then you should go to the Schanze area.

Furthermore, Hamburg has a great offer of sport activities, for example at the University of Hamburg.

How much does it cost to live in Hamburg?

In my opinion Hamburg is quite an expensive city to live in.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Hamburg? Is there any advice you can give?

There are student housings in Hamburg. There are also many flat shares available.

What places would you recommend visiting in Hamburg?

It depends on your interests, I would say that everyone can find a place to visit.

I would recommend to visit the Elbbrücken or to go to one of Hamburg's musicals, for example the Lion King or to and see the Elbphilharmonie (visiting the platform is free, but there is a daily limit of spaces).

For the more alternative people, there is the Schanzenviertel neighbourhood with Sternschanze. Another great place is the Karolinenviertel, an area with its individual and special little restaurants and cafes.

The Miniatur Wunderland or the Chocoversum as well as the Kaffeemuseum are great places to go in the Speicherstadt district.

It is great to eat out in Hamburg. The restaurants directly at the Alster are a nice place to go.

Is the nightlife good in Hamburg? Where is good to go?

The neighbourhoods which I mentioned above.

Some nice bars in the Schanzenviertel area are sofa bars, for example GoldFischGlas or the Katze.

What advice would you give future students heading to Hamburg?

Just do it!
