Why did you choose to go to Hamburg, Germany?

At beginning I choose Hambourg because I had a very good internship proposal. In fact salary here is pretty good. I choose a town like this and I do not regret it.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I receive 1318€. You don' t receive all of it at the beguinning. It is 80% the day you arrived in the country and 20% the day you comeback to your country.

What is the student lifestyle like in Hamburg?

I can't really answer to this question because I was there for an internship and not in school. But I can tell you that they are fun, Hamburg has recently been named the world's best party destination.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Hamburg to other students?

I can't answer to this question because I have never been there. As I said I was in a internship and not in school.

What is the food like?

In Hamburg do not necessarily expect great food. However if you want to eat typically German do not miss out on the famous curry wurst that is delicious.

Here many people are vegetarian or vegan, so you will find specialized restaurant and vegetarian and vegan dishes in almost every restaurant.

They are heathy with the food. You can taste a very good brunch with fruit charcurterie and musli.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Hamburg?

It depends on which neighborhood you live in. Price changes from one neighborhood to another.

For example, in the district of Shanze I pay in accomodation around 600 euro per month which includes internet and electricity of course.

How much does it cost to live in Hamburg?

It depends on what you compare the cost of living. Hamburg is the third largest city in Germany and is considered quite expensive by the German. However, for me it seems quite affordable because I am from Paris.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I have always worked in English and I had never learned German at school. For me it was impossible to learn German and many people will say that everyone speaks English so finally you can live without using german as I did for 6 months.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Hamburg from your city?

A lot of companies offer their employees training to learn German (this was not the case for mine) so I guess yes the university must also offer courses.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Hamburg?

I recommend Shanze alternative neighborhood which contain plenty of nice little bar like the Gold Fish Glass. Otherwise the famous street Reeperbahn in the neighborhood of St pauli which contains almost bar and nightclub and is known for the party.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Hamburg?

A good restaurant is the Bistrot Viennat in shanze, the food is always really good and homemade. Bistrot is really good but a bit expensive (60 euro).

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Of course I recommend going to visit the philharmonic of Hamburg which is beautiful and offers a 360 degree view of hamburg. Karl Lagerfeld also organized a parade in December devoted to the craft of Chanel.

For those who still have a child's soul you can visit the miniatur-wonderland which is a gigantic train resale in miniature.

Hamburg has also many art museums that you can visit for lovers.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Hamburg in the future?

Hamburg is a very charming city. The districts are all nice to live there. Try to avoid street reeperbhann which is often too noisy. This street is just fine for party but not for living there. If you take the boat to the pier at two stations you have access to a beach with its magnificent houses. I recommend going there even in winter because this is one of my favorite places.
