Delphi Museum 1
The Archeological Museum in Delphi offers some mixed findings from the site. Be curious and explore!
Here, votive weapons and bronze infantry helmets in the Corinthian style are to be found in the section about warfare.
Someone took this photo of me (with bad posture) in front of a helmet crest so that it looked like I was wearing a helmet ... the idea was not mine, but I like it! In the background you see various parts of bronze armor, important for a hoplite.
This marble relief shows some horses pulling a chariot ... nothing of importance you might say until you notice the actual 3D depth with which the horses (especially their legs) were carved. This is one of the earliest appearances of depth perspective in sculpture! So advanced! 3D printers ain't got nothing on this craft! :P
This is a great sphinx, a famous mythological creature, standing (or rather sitting) in the middle of this light room. Its lion body, wings and human head make her an instantly recognisable creature should you meet them in the wild ... watch out not to answer their questions wrong, they don't like that ;) Their older cousins in Egypt don't even have wings ... talk about evolution!
A second part will follow, stay tuned!
