What is it like to live in Gothenburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Nearly everyone speaks English (some elderly people and some immigrants are the exception). Fairly small. People are reserved. Cold and rainy, but nice climate and nature). Very clean. Streets are no longer safe because of the immigration.

People are far to emotionally attached to their political views, but not well educated. Avoid politics altogether. Especially immigration, feminism and human rights.

People are generally very friendly to each other and to foreigners.

What is the student lifestyle like in Gothenburg?

Depends on where you study and what you want to do. Good I would say.

How much does it cost to live in Gothenburg?

Alcohol in pubs and restaurants are really expensive. Buy liquor on the taxfree ferries or drive to Germany. Taxi is expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Gothenburg? Is there any advice you can give?

Extremely difficult. Just forget living in the city center unless you got the cash to buy an apartment. Que time for an apartment in the city center is about 10 years. You can get away with way less if you're a student, even less if you're a foreign student, even less if you're prepared to live in the ghetto with all the MENA immigrants, even less if you're an illegal immigrant.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Swedish restaurants are almost nonexistent. Those who exists are really expensive. Cook your own food or eat pizza.

What places would you recommend visiting in Gothenburg?

In very rough order:

- You have to celebrate Midsommar and Valborg if you're in town at the time of those festivities.

- Skansen lejonet (Great view, picnic, history).

- Delsjön/västralångvattnet/delsjöområdet (beautiful nature close to city center, lakes for swimming, fishing, rowboats, kayaks, sports, bicycling, walks, picnic)

- Vrångö, Marstrand (islands, you take the ferry)
- 2:a långgatan ('all' the pubs are located on this street)
- Avenyn (restaurants and nightclubs)
- Elfborgs fästning (fortress)
- Liseberg (tivoli)
- feskekörka (seafood)

Is it good to eat out in Gothenburg? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

If you're rich you might afford a luxurious hamburger. Sjöfartsmagasinet has the best Swedish food (seafood), but it is also the most expensive restaurant. I prefer my own food. Cheaper and tastes better.

Is the nightlife good in Gothenburg? Where is good to go?

Clubs are usually small. If you get drunk you will be thrown out. Trädgårn or Park Lane perhaps.

What advice would you give future students heading to Gothenburg?

Attend to the welcoming activities. You will get to know some people and it's fun!
