About the school

Established in the 20-th century, in 1978 in particular, No. 4 public school in Sagarejo has about 500 students from the first to the 12-th grade. They have some facilities, among them are football pitch, gym, library, cafeteria, very busy computers’ room, computer teaching room full with computers, entertainment room, large room for activities such as concerts, conferences, presentations, etc. The school very often takes parts in many competitions and there are many winners among the students. They take care of their school and they like it to be good-looking and not to be damaged or something like that.

The school students are interested in design and they have lots of their works on the walls in the whole school in corridors.

The school building has three buildings, you may say that. The building itself is half-rehabilitated. Its whole area is 1696 square metres. There is a 3-store building with 40 classrooms, inner and outdoor pitches, a large conference hall, cafeteria, science and computer labs, a library... There are 52 highly qualified teachers at school, 49 of which have master's degrees and 3 of them have bachelor's. 12 of them are certified teachers and from which one of them has been awarded the Best Teacher title.

Student life

The students at this school are very motivated and participate in many projects and stuff like that. For example, in 2012-2013 years, 47 students passed the barrier in the first round of the National Olimpiada, 5 of them went into the third round and one of them won. And this National Olimpiada is held in many subjects, uniting the whole Georgian students, as they happily take part in it.

I remember, me and my classmates used to look forward to participating in the Olimpiada and we couldn't wait for it to start. It usually started in October or something like that, and then the second round was in winter, during the winter holidays.

I think, it was the time we all were waiting for, and you may be surprised by that, because, normally, students just love winter holidays, as they are free from school and don't have to go there. But we didn't want to be free from school, I guess. Because the Olimpiada was held in our school and we participated in all subjects that offered the Olimpiada.

So there were something like more than ten subjects and imagine, we had to go to school ten times, or sometimes maybe less than ten times, because some days two subjects were scheduled in a day _ one after another. This was a great time. And, especially because of the other students coming to our school. It was awesome. We were like "kings of summer", I mean, we were on our land, we stood our ground, and we were hosts and we felt like the world was ours and we felt ourselves like lords of that territory.

Of course, we participated in this National Olimpiada really successfully. Personally, I had successes in chemistry, English language, Georgian literature mostly, I mean, in those subjects I was in the third round and I was in the best 5 in chemistry in the final and in top 10 in Georgian literature. And this was a great success for that time, as I was just 16 or something by then. And so, that's how I went to Buckswood Summer Schools in 2010 and 2011. And from the Buckswood Summer School 2010 I was chosen from all those students there to go to England and study English language there for free for 2 weeks in Cambridge. And I also participated in 2011-2012 years National Olimpiada, from where we were sent to Bazaleti training center for 3 days, where we had trainings about different subjects and we had a lot of fun, too, and I got some new friends and saw some long not-seen friends, too, and it was great.

So, I was telling you about the students and their desire to participate in as many projects as possible. There has been many projects and competitions and stuff like that, which they participated in and they had a great success. For example, annually, there is held this competition called "We Study the Bible" and there are groups of, I think, 6 people or up to 6 people or something and they compete with each other and there are some levels, too.

First of all, the competition is between the town's school groups, then it's between the region's groups and then the country's best groups compete against each other. Our Bible group was really good and they took 2-nd place once and then they ranked in top 5 or something. Well, that made me really proud, and I guess, that made the whole school proud of them. Then there were these competitions of logic, and the imitations of "What? Where? When? ", in which the students took part and took the 2-nd place once and then they participated in it again in another year... It's really hard to keep up to date to all these activities they do, because I don't study there anymore, _ I'm a student at university, and this university is in the capital of Georgia, some 30 or something kilometres far from Sagarejo _ that is the town where this school is located.

So, continuing, _ in 2015 this young lady, Ani, participated in this UWC competition and she won a 2 year college study with the full scholarship to study in Freiburg, Germany in Robert Bosch College and then she can enroll in any university in the world. The Robert Bosch College was founded in 1962 and every year it accepts students from all over the world in its 14 colleges in 14 countries, including Germany. In 2015 7 students were chosen from Georgia to go and study in UWC 5 colleges in different countries and one of them is Ani, and now it's her second semester there in Robert Bosch College. And she has also met Thomas Hammarberg _ a Swedish diplomat and human rights defender.

This is a great school with great teachers and I'm really thankful of them to make me such a person that I am now. Their devotion to school and students let's them be more determined and this is something the students need.
