Schloß Benrath
The pink castle of Düsseldorf
This pink castle was built in the 18th century in Baroque style on the banks of the Rhine. It is known mainly because it looks like a doll's house and is the ideal place to celebrate weddings, birthdays, special celebrations, etc..
The castle is small, but its strong point is definitely the garden. There are two distinct gardens in English and French style, two real jewels. For this reason, a museum about the history of gardens in Europe has been set up in the castle. When the weather is nice you can walk freely, have barbecues and picnics in the large park at the back of the castle.
In winter (from late November to Christmas) in the park take also place the traditional Christmas markets, perfect for enjoying a good mulled wine (Glühwein), and there is also an ice rink.
In August, however, the castle is home to the Festival of Lights (Lichterfest), where you can attend a live classical music orchestra, a play of lights and water in the pond and a firework show at the end of the event.
The entrance with the tour to the castle and all the museums costs 10€ (for students), or you can choose to visit only one of the museums (Natural History Museum 4€, Garden Museum 6€). At the weekend there are also guided tours in English and German, to learn more about the history of the castle and all the works of art and architecture present here.
How to get there:
You can comfortably arrive here with the U74 or the 701, or also by S-Bahn with the S6 and you can arrive in 10 minutes walking.
