Christmas market - Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf is about a 15 minute train journey travelling south from Duisburg.
This city has one of the biggest Christmas markets in the region as it is one of the biggest and most important cities. Its markets remain spread out over numerous areas of the city. They are practically all found in the old part of the city. It takes about 15 minutes to get to, walking towards the river Rhine from the main train station.
The main ones can be found on the street called "Schadowstraße" which is very close to "Nördliche Düssel" park or "Heinrich Heine" square.
The following one before arriving in the area where the river is found, is on the street "Königsallee", which is the street where some of the artificial canals that are surrounded by luxury shops are found.
Moving closer to the old town, I would recommend going by the street "Flingerstraße" because it's such a friendly street where market stalls take up almost all the space and it seems like it's more crowded than it actually is.
After going through the aforementioned street, you finally come to the area of "Düsseldorfer Altstadt", or the old part of Düsseldorf, which, in my judgement, has better stalls than the city, which are accompanied by a giant ferris-wheel which you can see in the previous and following images:
This year, a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower was installed in solidarity with the victims of the Paris attacks. It's found next to the stalls that I mentioned earlier and that can be appreciated on part of their decorations in the following image.
In one of these stalls that are found next to the famous stairs which go into the river Rhine, I tried, for the first time, "Langosch". It's like a sweet type of bread that is fried and shaped like a pizza and you can add syrup to it (I chose to add apple) and a little cinnamon. Simply delicious!
Facing the river from this zone and walking for almost 2 minutes on the street "Berger Straße", you come to "Marketplatz", or the market square. Here is where you can find another Christmas market that takes up the entirety of this square, situated next to the city hall of the city, as you can see in this following image of it at night.
Another one of the typical foods of this time of year and of these stalls is the following:
I'm not 100% sure what it's made of, but accompanied by the apple syrup, it is so delicious. It's like fried potato. I know that by eating 3 of these, you're practically eating a meal, and for only 4€!
Lastly, returning to the area with the ferris-wheel, and going down the promenade on the banks of the river, one can enjoy some beautiful views of the river and walk until reaching the area with the port. Furthermore, at night, with the illuminating lights which light up the city and the Christmas markets, gives the visitor the opportunity to see the city from a different perspective with the option to dine on one of the terraces on the banks of the Rhine.
