Experience in Dublin, Ireland by Mackenzie
What is it like to live in Dublin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend it because life can be whatever you want it to be - fast-paced and exciting or slow and comfortable. If you make an effort, it isn't too hard to make friends but a it helps to be a little extroverted. The city is busy and loud and the traffic is horrendous. Don't drive in Dublin! Cycle, walk or Luas. Or bus. Rent is extremely expensive but the rest of it isn't too costly. Weather is pretty reliable but when it rains, it's miserable.
What is the student lifestyle like in Dublin?
Pretty good! Plenty of things to keep you active.
How much does it cost to live in Dublin?
Rent is the worst. Everything else is reasonable.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dublin? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes but there's lots of online resources and student unions will help where they can.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
It's Irish food so it's not very exotic - think hearty and hot.
What places would you recommend visiting in Dublin?
The whole city is interesting because it's built a bit like a maze. The nicest places you'll come across are usually the ones that you discover by accident. Trinity College is great though.
Is it good to eat out in Dublin? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes but it can be pricey to go somewhere nice. I like Milanos even though it's a franchise. Just love nice pizza.
Is the nightlife good in Dublin? Where is good to go?
Depends on the night but Harcourt street has a selection of clubs to choose from. There are other places around the city but you have to go hunting.
What advice would you give future students heading to Dublin?
Enjoy the ride.
