Why did you choose to go to Dublin, Ireland?

I had the chance to do a semester abroad in Dublin, so I took it. A lot of people recommended going to DCU (Dublin City University).

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship is 4 months and I receive about €300 per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Dublin?

I really enjoy the student lifestyle here. It's relaxing and not stressful at all. In my home university I have to study a lot and put so much effort in organising my schedule and exams. During my semester abroad I have more free time and thus can travel around Ireland and explore the country.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Dublin to other students?

I would definitely recommend both the city and university to other students. Dublin itself has a lot to offer. There are so many different stores, pubs and cafes well worth stopping by. Most people here are super friendly. Just ask someone if I don't find your way. DCU is a well organised university offering specific modules just for Erasmus and international students. Besides studying there are a lot of different clubs and societies to join. There is a nice sports complex with gym and swimming pool at the campus, too.

What is the food like?

Typical Irish dishes contain loads of carbs and fat. I am a healthy eater but don't have any problems to look for and find the healthy options. The cafeteria in DCU, for example, offers a variety of different dishes.

Was it difficult for you to find accommodation in Dublin?

It took a while to find accommodation here in Dublin. First, I applied for accommodation on campus but unfortunately didn't get a spot. Then I started to look on websites like Daft.ie. I finally got a place via Facebook (the group is called Dublin Flatshare).

How much does it cost to live in Dublin?

For accommodation I pay around €500 monthly. The rest might be about €200.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It wasn't difficult. Of course, people have different dialects and you might not be used to all of them, but after a while you'll be fine. There are plenty of language courses available in DCU.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Dublin from your city?

I got here by plane (AerLingus).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Dublin?

There are so many local pubs well worth visiting.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Dublin?

I usually prepare my food at home and either eat there or take it with me.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Dublin castle, museums, the port,... or travel to Howth or Malahide (about 45 minutes by train).

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Dublin in the future?

Never forget your umbrella, you'll need it! Anyways, enjoy your time here because it's going to be awesome!
