Erasmus Experience in Dublin, Ireland by Dusan
Why did you choose to go to Dublin, Ireland?
Good and serious work on thesis.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
1000 eur/month and that's not enough.
What is the student lifestyle like in Dublin?
It's good. It's expensive, but when you get used to biking on Irish weather, it's very nice. Irish are great, people make this city such a nice place.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Dublin to other students?
Yes.
What is the food like?
Fresh products (fruits, vegetables) are often of low quality and are expensive. The rest is fine. As always, go for traditional ones, here dairy and meat are big. Beer and whiskey. Oh yeah, if you're a coffee lover, you might struggle to find good coffee in a coffee shop. But go for tea;)
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Dublin?
No, but I was lucky. Often people come, spend some days in hostel and then search the accommodation.
How much does it cost to live in Dublin?
If you have a single room and if you use public transport (other than dublinbikes) around 1300euro/month.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Dublin from your city?
Ryanair! This is the hub, you will usually find loads of flights.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Dublin?
Porter house, Workman's pub, Sweetman's pub...
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The national museum offers free entrance to students! And you have loads of live music all over the city-feels like every Irish is a musician :)
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Dublin in the future?
Dublinbikes! I know it's not always fun to bike during Irish winter, but as long as you're in the city center, that's the only transport worth considering. For 20 euro a year!
