Dublin is great city however i have found staying with host family is cheapest way to live in Dublin, i found that staying in apartment requires a contact of at least 9 months and then there's all bills that have to be paid, even though i was sharing with one other, i found that i was spending at least 720 euro month on food and bills, electricity, heating, water, gas, and waste removal is very expensive etc , I found host family at 650 for 4 weeks was cheapest way to stay here, with no bills, it takes pressure off you because you can study and party too without all these bills, Host familys varie from 600 to 800 per  month i found 600 euro host families are too far from city and mostly in bad area's. Any families around 650 are in good places like south dublin. am staying in around stillorgan v.good, bus routes, friendly family, lots of shops and sports grounds, Also coming after christmas first time was very had to get a place to stay' i suggest  book with host family before you come here. there is shortage of accommodation due to this big recession in this lovely country many people have lost there homes so rents are being pushed up big time.
