What is it like to live in Debrecen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is second biggest city of Hungary, which can be found on the East of the country. We have one of the best universities in the country with hundreds of exchange students and foreigners each year because of the good quality of education.

What is the student lifestyle like in Debrecen?

It is not like the capital, but student life is amazing! Due to programs organized my student associations there is always something to do. The prices are not high so it is a very good place to intership or mobility programs.

How much does it cost to live in Debrecen?

As I mentioned before it does not cost a lot since it is not the capital and at almost every place you can get student discounts.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Debrecen? Is there any advice you can give?

There are many dorms and it's not difficult to find any kind of accomodation, in contrast to Budapest or the prices all over Italy for example, and it does not cost a lot. There are many groups on Facebook where there are even ads for/by foreigners.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Amazing! Our cuisine is famous all over the world. I guess it is enough if I say goulash. Our dishes are a bit spicy and we use a lot of paprika that makes them very delicious. We eat a lot of meat and soup that makes us unique. I love gulash and all the dishes with sour cream, a kind of yoghurt we use for example for stuffed cabbage.

What places would you recommend visiting in Debrecen?

The main square, the university building and the stadium that was built 2 years ago.

Is it good to eat out in Debrecen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Of course! We have a lot of cafés and many restaurants that serve tipical Hungarian dishes. In the centre there are a bunch of them.

Is the nightlife good in Debrecen? Where is good to go?

Yeah, although it is not a metropolis, we have many parties at many places mostly for university students. We have parties organized by different faculties but everone can participate. In the centre there is a new place that opened in September.

What advice would you give future students heading to Debrecen?

Come! You will love it because of the vivid student life and great cuisine. Our culture is quite unique and there are students from 4 continents and conutless countries who have already chosen this city!
