Why did you choose to go to Debrecen, Hungary?

Because Hungary's education system is kind of good and has a suitable tuition fee compared to other countries.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I received support from my family themself. I had spent around 500$ average monthly including rent fee, electricity, water and living expenses. I think the market price in Hungary or Debrecen itself is quite not expensive. Since I like to cook my dishes at home, It has not cost too much compared to ordering foods from restaurants. Thus you can save your money.

What is the student lifestyle like in Debrecen?

To be honest, Debrecen lifestyle is peaceful, driving it suitable for studying in my opinion. However it does not have much things to do at weekends. But don't worry! It is developing now as more modern than few last years. You have Aquaticum, thermal bath and wall hiking, new-building Stadium and Nagyerdei Park, nearby our university. The lifestyle in Debrecen is more "students", more younger and lively. There are annually summer festivals, out-market in winter and spring season. They have much more activities depending on seasons.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Debrecen to other students?

Yes, I would like to recommend the University to others. In fact, it is improving and changing to become the best now.

What is the food like?

It is quite ok. In fact, I love their taste these days. I heard health promotion of hungarian goverment encourages people going to eat less salty than it was used to due to high prevalence of high blood pressure and salty food is not good for children. I am very happy with the new change.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Debrecen?

Yes, it did. If you had help by agency. But it depends on which agency you choose. Enema takes you 10, 000 ft for the cost (that was the price 5 years ago, I dont know how much it is now). However "greatforestdebrecen" does not. I am not sure about others.

How much does it cost to live in Debrecen?

Averagely 500$ is enough.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

You can use your body language if you cannot say anything, Hungarian people are very kind and nice, they help you all their best. There are some Hungarian crash courses available before each semester. Thus You can come to ask for it at DebrecenSummerSchool website, or directly to the building, located near Kossuth building (main building).

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Debrecen from your city?

I prefer airplane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Debrecen?

Centrum or Nagyerdei Park.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Debrecen?

Bonita, Wasabi, Korean restaurant, Kashmir (Indian), etc.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

sorry, I really don't know. But you can try DebrecenSun or Interdesk Help...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Debrecen in the future?

If you can, please take hungarian crash course. It helps you a lot because most of hungarian do not speak english. They like Dutch/ German/ French than english...
