Beautiful Colmar, France
The introduction
Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!
In this article I want to tell you about my experience in Colmar and everything about it. You know, it’s a town in France, just nearby the border of France with Germany and it’s really near my college, I mean, it’s just nearby Freiburg, Germany, and that’s where I study now, so that people just go there and visit Colmar and enjoy hanging out there while sightseeing it and enjoying some French cuisine. You know, French desserts are very popular and , at the same time, very delicious, of course, and people really love eating those croissants and pastryand everything. and I love those things, too, however, I can not say the same about other French dishes, I mean, they love those sea food and they eat fish and lobster and everything and I just can not eat them , because I don’t really love those kind of things and I even don’t eat them with force.
However, there are some things, that I can eat from time to time, when I actually want to eat them, I mean, there’s this salmon pizza, that I ate some time ago in Germany and it was pretty good and I also can eat some roasted fish, too, however, that’s really rare cases and, in general, I don’t really eat sea food, that was what I wanted to say, so that being in France, I just really enjoy their pastry, as they have some great cream fillings and I really love cakes and things like that with cream fillings, which I don’t usually find in Germanyand that’s pretty sad, because I’m just used to eating cakes with some great and plenty of cream filling and I just love eating the cream filling alone, too, without anything else, so now you get, why it’s not that simple me being in Germany without any cream filling and stuff like that.
Anyways, Colmar is this small town and by that I don’t mean anything bad, I mean, it’s a small cute town, but the beauty of that small town is just fascinating and the colours are amazing and , I guess, this town would be any painters wish to visit and see, because the vivid colours of Colmar is something unforgettable.
It has this amazing buildings built in German style architecture or things like that, I mean, you know those half-timbered houses, which look very awesomeand I’ve always wondered, what they would look like when seen up close and since I’ve seen it now, I must say, that they are pretty beautiful and building them has not been easy, I guess. It’s like when you are in this town, every time stops in the world and you just walk into the streets of it and enjoy this every moment of your life there. Everything seems so calm and your mind is calm, too, and that’s what everyone wishes nowadays, I guess, because life goes so fast these days, that nothing seems to be calm, you know.
Anyways, this is a town full of history and historical buildingsand, besides, it has been saved very well and reconstructed and things like that and everyone just loves visiting it because of its beauty and nature and architecture and the environment there in all.
What to see in Colmar
Well, first of all, you should definitely hit the old town, I mean, there’s all that medieval spirit which you are looking for and you will find yourself in such a great place, that you won’t want to leave it anytime soon. I was very impressed by everything and it was like a Disney movieor something like that and I was part of it not realizing, that I actually was visiting this amazing place. And you can have some boat tours in the town through that river and, trust me, it’s really a good idea to have a boat trip there and it’s like visiting Venice, or something like that , though I haven’t really been to Venice, if you want to know the truth.
Another place, that you might want to visit while being in Colmar is that Koifhaus or old customs house. It’s a very nice place, where you can have some wine tasting and look around and enjoy your visit there. They also sell some souveniers and things like that there and the building itself is really beautiful, of course.
You can visit this museum Musee du Jouet et du Petit Train, where the entrance fee is just 5 euros and you can see it in about 2 hours or so, because it’s not very large, however, everything there is pretty interesting and if you like trains and things like that, then you will definitely want to visit this small museum in Colmar.
You should also see this cathedral Eglise St. Martin, which is a pretty old building. It was built in the 13-14-th centuries and it’s in a Gothic architectural style. It’s not as large as some other European cathedrals, I mean, I always imagined those cathedrals to be very large with all those colourful glass windows and everything, but this one is not that large, however, it’s very beautiful. It has this 13-th century stained glass window with beardless Jesus on it and it’s kind of unique, I guess, because I don’t know, if there’s another glass window with beardless Jesus on it.
Another medieval centuries’ architectural building is this Maison Pfister, which it the most famous house in colmar, I guess. It was building 1537 and it’s a Rennaissance building, so that it’s a very beautiful one, of course. There are so many details in this building, that you can look at it all day long and you won’t get enough of it, if you want to know the truth.
You should visit the Musee Unterlinden in Colmar if you love art and want to see some pieces of art there. It’s a lovely old building with that green lawn around and it’s a very cozy place, if you ask me. You can even see some of Picasso’s paintingsthere, so that it’s recommended to go there and see the museum while visiting this amazing town.
Did you know, that Bartholdi was from Colmar? No? Well, I will tell you, that he was from Colmar, France and that's why they even have a small Statue of Libertythere in Colmar. And there's also this ethnographic museum, which we visited while being there and it was worth visiting, so that I really recommend seeing this stuff there, too.
Well , to tell you the truth, I was pretty surprised to know, that Colmar is the capital of Alsace wines and it boasts 37 wine-growing communities and 30 Grands Crus. We really respect wine culture in my country Georgia and, hence, I was really intrigued by this town and everything about the wine there. So that we even went wine-tasting there and it was my first time ever wine-tasting and it was pretty awesome, I must say.
Anyways, there are so many things, that you can do and see in Colmar, that I can’t really write about, it’s like you should go there and see everything yourself and discover the beauty of this old town.
