Experience in Coimbra, Portugal by Marina
What is it like to live in Coimbra? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Coimbra is a student city with many academic activities, sports, culture and traditions. I recommend it especially for students. Coimbra has one of the oldest universities from Europe, it was founded in 1290.
What is the student lifestyle like in Coimbra?
There are many traditions and activities that contribute for helping the freshmen feel more confident at the beginning. These traditions are included in "praxe" (in latin "praxis") and are also responsible for increasing the contact and deepen relationships in all academic community. The feeling "saudade" is the biggest inspiration for "fado de Coimbra" (world heritage). The most important academic activities are Festa das Latas and Queima das Fitas.

What advice would you give future students heading to Coimbra?
I would suggest them to join one of the cultural or sportive groups so they can get contact with the culture and people. If they have some problems or doubts they can speak with their coordinator. I'm also available, if they need something!
