What is it like to live in České Budějovice? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

České Budějovice has nearly 100 000 habitants, which means that the city is neither really big, nor too small to the extend that that it is impossible to hide there. Taking into account that it is my hometown, of course, I would recommend it. České Budějovice is a university city and it is really easy to walk everywhere. However, if you are lazy. you can take a bus. Prices here are really cool if compared to those in Prague. Besides, here we have an unforgettable atmosphere, a local brewery, and the famous local beer: Budweiser Budvar.

What is the student lifestyle like in České Budějovice?

The student lifestyle in České Budějovice is great, but it is so thanks to the amount of Erasmus students in the city. By the way, don't worry, there's always something to do and we have several pubs and clubs.

How much does it cost to live in České Budějovice?

Since I lived with my parents, I really can't say an exact figure, but I know it is not expensive. Beer costs around 25-30 korunas, which is 1 euro. Besides, you can have lunch in a pub for around 100 korunas and accommodation is cheap: don't pay more than 3000 korunas!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in České Budějovice? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it isn't difficult. Every university has its own dorm. Moreover, we have a website to find an apartment in the city if you are a student. Besides, I'm sure there is a group on Facebook to find accommodation in České Budějovice.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Czech food is not only fatty, but also makes you end up being full. However, we have some dishes that you won't find anywhere else. I love every Czech meal, from dumplings and meat to semolina porridge with chocolate.

What places would you recommend visiting in České Budějovice?

There are many places that I would recommend. For instance, in summer, you should go to Sokolak, an island near the river where young people usually chill. You should also hike on the Black Tower and, then, have the best coffee in Široko. Added to this, we have morning markets and many events throughout the year. The number of places where you should go depends on the time you're going to be here, but don't miss our student festival : it's free, it's in May and it lasts five days.

Is it good to eat out in České Budějovice? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it is good. We have three Indian restaurants (I prefer the one which is near the square), Spanish restaurants (Cabaña is really good), Chinese restaurants, and other restaurants to enjoy traditional Czech meals (I recommend Maske Kramy or U Sedlaku). I also recommend going to Columbia and Vendetta. Besides, if you are vegan or vegetarian, I think you should go to Vegarna Impala. Finally, if you don't want to spend too much money on food, I suggest having lunch and dinner in your university canteen, since its meals are cheap and taste good.

Is the nightlife good in České Budějovice? Where is good to go?

Yes, it is pretty good. The best days to party are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Although, in reality, every day is good to party. I think that the best pubs are Singer, Cuba, Horka Vana, Siroko, Kavkarna, and many others. Besides, you can usually enjoy a concert in Slavie, Velbloud or K2. Finally, if you love disco parties, you should go to Paradox, Maxim, Broukarna or City life.
