Erasmus Experience in Castellón De la Plana, Spain by Marijana
Why did you choose to go to Castellón De la Plana, Spain?
To be honest, I didn't choose, for my field of study it was the only option in Spain and I just went with it.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
One semester and I'm getting 850 euros because I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina which is not part of EU, therefore it has lower standards in general. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford any kind of exchange.
What is the student lifestyle like in Castellón De la Plana?
One of the best experiences! People are really relaxed, friendly, outgoing and like to party a lot!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Castellón De la Plana to other students?
I would definitely recommend it, especially to those who prefer smaller cities because Castellon still has everything one student needs - restaurants, clubs, beach, nature, parks etc.
What is the food like?
Food is amazing, as in every culture. Sadly, due to the current situation with pandemic going on I didn't get much chance to experiment and to find out more about local cuisine.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Castellón De la Plana?
There are many good and affordable accommodations and they are easy to find, either in Erasmus Castellon Facebook group or directly on idealista.com
How much does it cost to live in Castellón De la Plana?
My room is 180 euros but most of them are around 200-250 euros + bills which is not that expensive. It is better to attend the summer semester here tho because most of the houses use electric radiators and therefore electricity bills might get higher in the winter.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, there are courses of Spanish language.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Castellón De la Plana from your city?
From Sarajevo, the easiest (and the cheapest!) way to get to Castellon is to take a flight to Valencia and then train to Castellon.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Castellón De la Plana?
Holy trinity - Wallaby's Creek, Mambo and Santos! Oh, and predrinks at Parabarap or some in-house party.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Everywhere in Castellon, there are nice squares and landmarks. For the nature lovers, I would recommend Desierto de las Palmas and Agulles de Santa Àgueda, a nice hilltop from which you can see Benicasim and infinite sea in front of you.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Castellón De la Plana in the future?
Enjoy. Every. Second. Of it. Go out as much as you can, explore as much as you can, travel around as much as you can too, meet as many people as you can!
