Experience in Cáceres, Spain by Judith
What is it like to live in Cáceres? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Well, it's nice. For people who like living in the countryside, very small places and close friendships it's pretty nice. I've always said that Cáceres is a city to have kids in and to live a calm life, but not for your university experience. It's a very calm city.
What is the student lifestyle like in Cáceres?
It's a bit quiet, because you can go out to the same places every time, but on Thursdays or on Saturdays, if you try to have a big night on a Tuesday... you can bet that everything will be over by 12.
How much does it cost to live in Cáceres?
It's really cheap, that's for sure. €150 is the highest price you'll be able to find, but it's definitely small, so it's not too expensive for a student flat either. Now if you want a duplex in one of the better neighbourhoods... you get it.
Was is difficult to find accommodation in Cáceres? Do you have any advice?
It wasn't hard for me at all, but you have to look when the students are moving in or out, so in September or June.
What is the food like? What are some of your favourite dishes?
The food there is typical Spanish food. It's really good, as they have the best meats in the country. My favourite dishes from Cáceres? Pig's knuckles, the toasted Torta del Casar and jamón ibérico.
Where do you recommend to visit in Cáceres?
The old town, without doubt. The most beautiful thing is that the city and its human heritage have been perfectly preserved.
And to eat in Cáceres? What are some of your favourite places to go?
The most expensive, but highest quality, place was the Figon de Eustaquio. And you'll have amazing food in any restaurant you go to in the Palacio de Oquendo area.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Cáceres?
There are only two:
- La Sala Bahia
- El Cameron
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Cáceres in the future?
I'd advise them to try and make the most of their situation.
Cáceres is pretty and Extremadura has a lot of nature reserves to see. Don't limit yourself to just being in the city, but rather think more about being in the geographic area as a whole. Go on lots of trips and do activities in nature all around the area.
If you are looking for partying, Salamanca is really nearby and there are lots of students there.
