A great low cost bet!
Hello to all.
My name is Juanse, and this year I am living in Porto, Portugal, but I was studying in Cáceres for 4 years.
Cáceres is a cheap city with good weather and a lot of possibilities for traveling. It's near Portugal, you can visit Lisboa if you want to go to beach and meet Portuguese people, Badajoz in less than 1 hour, Madrid in about 3-4 hours, Seville in about 3-4 hours and Salamanca in less than 3 hours.
In Cáceres, there are parties the whole year, the main place for going out is called "La Madrila". It's a square with a lot of discos, and depending on the day of the week you can get a Heineken beer for only 2 €, it's a disco zone. You can enjoy at Latinos, Ivanhoe, La Calle.. they all are cool places. La Madrila isn't the only cool place. In my opinion, Plaza Mayor is a typical pub zone where you can talk, pick up, drink, laugh.. etc. Tthere are a lot of pubs, but my suggestions are:
- El corral de las cigüeñas: I like this place very much, it's a typical Erasmus pub where you can do Latino dance, play darts and drink cheap.
- Berlín: A rock pub with good prices. If you want rock, you will like this pub.
- La farmacia: A cool pub with mixed music, I was there many times and it's cool.
There are a lot of more places, better for other cases, for example "100 montaditos", to eat and talk quietly or "Roma" to get a cup quietly.
The second semester is better than the first, we have WOMAD. It's the main event in Cáceres. Its duration is a whole weekend (in May) and it's a crazy! All people that went want to repeat!
In the field of studying, we must tell that the University of Extremadura is out of the city, about 4 km away, so you need a transport card (you can get it in Cánovas Street, in the bus office) and pay 24. 50 € per month. With this card you can take all the buses in Cáceres, unlimited. The difficulties with studying are relative. The technical students can have difficulties, but generally the level for the Erasmus is easy (if you have doubts, you can ask me).
The normal price of a flat is usually cheap, you can get a room for about 130€, but if you look harder even for 100€. Cáceres doesn't have bad places for living, but I recommend near Avenida de España and near Plaza Mayor.
The International Exchange Student's Office in near Plaza Mayor, and in this zone there are also a lot of shops and restaurants (I think there is another office in the campus).
You may monthly spend about 400€. Less or more, depends if you travel or go to a lot of parties, but with 400€ you can go out about 3 times a week and have a good flat without a problem.
I hope you enjoy your Erasmus experience!
Good luck!
Juanse
